I have a house!

Actually, I’ve had it for a while, now. But I only thought to post about it — and my school building — now. Come behind the “read more” cut and see pictures, won’t you?

The atrium of the business building. I can walk through a long street vendor-like covered mall to get here from the train station without ever passing outside. A-plus-plus benefit come the winter months.

See? The walkway inbetween the business building and that mall. With all the evergreens on campus and the snow that will be coming in just a few months, that should be a BEAUTIFUL trek.

(Not that I’ll be spending too much time looking out all those big windows; I have seen the PhD student rooms and they are, um, not especially window-lined. Heh. Well, that wasn’t exactly unexpected.)

In my house, there’s a room I didn’t even expect down in the basement! It has to be re-painted, and the basement needs to be… well, painted, but this surprise room…

…means that I can have a whole dedicated art studio!

My mom is planning on making trips to escape the Boise summer heat, and I wanted to have a space for friends to crash when they came up to visit, so the original plan had been a combo room of a studio and a sleeper chair. Given the size of my drafting table, that would have been… exceedingly cozy. But instead! Whole room! Just for art!

(That room, unsurprisingly, gets brighter when I think to open the shades.)

I know the rooms are small and things are seriously, seriously neutral, but that’s fine by me. The big thing is that I have different areas for different functions, so my oils and markers and illustration boards will have no reason to encounter my books and software and files, and I will never have to shuffle things around to make room for incoming guests. Plus, I have massive amounts of artwork that will be going on the walls, anyway, and I want the neutral white on the studio walls to not affect the light.
